The October 4-H meeting will be Tuesday, October 19th at 6:30 in the elementary school cafeteria. We will have a showmanship program. Hope to see you there.

The first meeting of the 2010-2011 school year will be on Tuesday, Sept.21st at 6:30 in the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Cafeteria... please make note of the NEW LOCATION... We will electing officers and making posters for National 4H week...if you have them please bring photos of your 4H projects and you showing them. They will be going on the posters, they will NOT be returned so be sure and have copies mades if you wish to keep them...
Make sure you attend this important first meeting of the year.

The Texas 4-H Program and the Texas Rangers are having 4-H “Green Out” Day at Ranger’s Ballpark in Arlington on Saturday, August 28, 2010. (That’s the Saturday after the first week of school.)

We’d like to get a group together from Archer County to go to the game! They play the Oakland Athletics @ 7:05pm first pitch. There is a pregame concert by MercyMe (don’t know exact time).

The county will be ordering a group of tickets for this game. If you would like to go, please take your money & t-shirt size to the Extension Office NO LATER THAN August 1st. Every ticket holder in this group will get a Green 4-H/Rangers shirt so we can “green out” the 4-H section of the ball park. We will get the shirts once we arrive at the game.

Tickets are $15 and are in the Lexus Club Terrace section (the second deck).

Everyone will be responsible for their own transportation to the ball game. This is a family activity, and we hope that families will come!

As a double-bonus, the Rangers are giving back $3 of every ticket sold through this program to the county 4-H program! Also, as another promo, the first 8,500 there who are 13 & Under get a red Rangers shirt.

Archer County 4H Trap Shooting Sets Kickoff Meeting for 2010

The Archer County 4-H Trap Shooting Project will kick off for 2010 with an orientation sign-up night on Monday, February 8,2010 at 7 pm at the Archer County Shooting Sports Complex, located on the southwest side of the Archer City Lake. (Directions: In Archer City, on Hwy 79, turn on W South Street, travel West until you reach the city lake Dam, the gate across the dam will be open. Drive across the dam and follow the road till you reach the Shooting Sports Range and Meeting room.

This 4-H project is open to youth in grades 3-12. Youth can live anywhere within the county, At the first meeting youth will be able to enroll or re-enroll in 4-H. 4-H members and their parents will be signing release forms and paperwork to participate in the 4-H Shooting Program. Rules, equipment, shooting schedules, and questions about trap shooting will be covered by the coaches. A parent will have to attend all meetings and practice sessions with 4-H youth. Do not bring any firearms to the first meeting.

For all first time shooters a safety meeting with the coaches will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Coach will be conducting gun safety and handling orientation prior to the weekly practice sessions. This is manditory for all first time shooters to the 4-H trap shooting project. Weekly shooting practice will being at the shooting range for the 1st time shooters starting on Monday, February 15th and experienced shooters starting on Feb.17th.

This 4-H trap shooting project is one of the most successful in the state. The success of the Archer County 4-H shooting sports programs is form the dedication of volunteers and coaches to the program. Pay and Teresa Martin volunteer and coordinate weekly practice sessions, handle paperwork and supplies with 4-H members. The certified coaches are: Jim Ashton, Pat Thomason, Rick Gilbert and Marvin Henry. They will instruct youth in shooting skills, safety, and various parts of the trap shooting program. The shooting range and facility has been a great asset to this 4-H project with improvements that continue. Raffle Tickets and Entry Forms...

Just a reminder that Raffle tickets for double points are due tommorow , Friday, December4, 2009, if you will call Teresa at (940)-235-5304 she will come by and pick them up.

Also, Entry forms for County Show projects are due in the County Extension office tommorow December 4th. All entries turned in after tommorow will have a $10 late fee.

So, get those Tickets and Entry forms turned in!!

The County Extension agent will be validating Holliday FFA pigs this afternoon about 4:30 at the FFA barn at school. Any 4Her's who do not want to have make a trip to Archer City on Monday evening are welcome to bring their pigs to be validated tonight...

Several things coming up that I wanted to get out to everyone....

SWINE VALIDATION is Monday, November 23rd at the Show barn in Archer City from 6-8 pm.

All Entries for the Major Shows are due on November 23rd also.

The Archer County Junior Livestock Show entries are due in the County Extension Office on Friday, December 4th. Any entries received after that date will have a $10.00 late fee added to them... so get those entries in!!!

Our Photography workshop on Saturday was great. We did lots of brainstorming for our entries for the County Show, alot of talking about photography and even went out and took some photos! We will try to do another one in the Spring if anyone missed this one and is interested in attending one!!

The County 4H banquet on Sunday was great!! Thank you to those from Holliday 4H that attended... next year we would LOVE to see one whole table full of Holliday 4H-ers and their families.

DECEMBER MEETING: Will be on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Methodist Church.
This will be our Christmas party of sorts, we are asking that everyone bring your favorite desert for the refreshments.
One of the activities will be making signs and discussing decorations for the 4H float in the Holliday Christmas parade... it will be on Saturday, Dec.12 at 10:00 am, we will be meeting at 9:30 am that morning to put the finishing touches on the float and get ready... Our theme will be "Going Green with 4H" so everyone wear green and a Santa hat.
This will also be our last meeting before the County Show in January.
We want everyone to attend this meeting for sure!!

COUNTY SHOW CATALOG : We received the books at the banquet on Sunday night, if you want to get a copy, contact us here by email and we will get you one,just remember all entries MUST be in by December 4th, so you will need to get your entries before the meeting. The book is also available for download on the County Extension website here. So you can download and print at least the entry forms from there.

Due to the Football game being so far away on Friday night, the photography workshop on Saturday is being pushed back to 11-1pm. We will be at the Holliday Public Library... if you need to know where that is call Deb Dyer at (940)-867-7797

The County 4H Banquet is Sunday, November 15th at 6pm at the County Activities Center in Archer City.. this is next to the Archer County Show barn... if you need directions, please contact Deb or Teresa Kloxin. This is a Potluck Dinner so bring a covered dish, your family and get ready to Celebrate the year in 4H in Archer County. We would like to see everyone there if possible. All 4H members there will be recognized...

Our meeting on Tuesday night was very well attended yet again!! We had two new families come to join us. Do you realize that we have had new members at every meeting this year??!! That is fantastic!!! We want this group to grow and this is exactly how we want to do it!! Thank you!!

I think that is all for now, i just wanted to update the info on the Photography Workshop and the banquet, there will be more info to follow probably this weekend or Early next week...

We just got through with our Fall Trash Pick up for a community service, we had 7 kids and 4 adults join us for this on a beautiful fall afternoon. Thanks so much to all those who came and helped us!!

We are going to be doing our Trash Pick up on Sunday, October 2, 2009 at 2pm... our part of the Adopt a Highway, is at the corner of Hwy 368 and FM 1954, we will meet at that point and work our way two miles East. We need as many folks to show up for this so it won't take us long to do this. In the event it is raining, we will have reschedule for a later date.

In order to show in the County Stock Show or any major stock show, you must validate your animal. Please put these dates on your calendar. Bring your animal to the show barn at the date/time below and $5 for county validation or $9 if you plan to show at a major show.

Sheep, Goats & Heifers — October 24, 2009 from 8-noon.
Dairy cattle — November 7, 2009
Swine — November 23, 2009 from 6-9 p.m.
Rabbits — First part of December, TBA

Welcome to the New 4H year!!

It's a new year for everyone, new school year, new 4H year as well. We held our first meeting of the year on Sept 8th at 6:30 pm. The purpose of this meeting was to get a little organized and make some plans for the year.
We have some new exciting things coming up in the next few months so be sure and come to the meetings and participate!

* We have a new County Extension Agent this year. His name is Justin Gilliam, he comes to Archer County from Throckmorton, we are very excited to have him. We are hoping to have him as a guest at an upcoming meeting so everyone can meet and get to know him. Welcome to Archer County Justin!

* The next meeting will be held on October 13, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Methodist Church. Some of the agenda is below:
* Election of Officers for Holliday 4H Club
* Club T-shirt for County show
* Set date for Trash pick up later in October.
* Brief discussion of photography and set up possible workshop in Early November.

* If you haven't already please make a point to send us an email(click on email on the right side of this page) to make sure we get your email address to send out updates and notices.

* This website is going to serve as our main mode of communication this year. February Meeting

February meeting was held the 23rd beginning around 6:30 that evening. Each child got to tell what animal they show, photography, and food projects they did and what they placed. Thank you notes were talked about. Each and every child that sold something at the auction will need to write a note to anyone that added - on or bought the item. Kids then got to enjoy a video that was made by shawnsmithphotography based on the County show. It was great!! Everyone seemed to really, really enjoy watching it. Thank you Shawn for all your hard work!!

Last weekend was the annual Archer County Junior Livestock Show and Sale.

Thank you so much for visiting the Holliday 4 H site! As you can see its pretty much bare bones right now but soon there will be lots of information about us, our chapter and how YOU can get involved!!
